KATHAK SYLLABUS


SYLLABUS

v General Exercises

Ø Bhumi Pranam

Ø Correct posture of Kathak – feet position, spine, alignment of shoulders, etc.

Ø Basic movements and exercises of eyes, neck, wrists, hands, feet, etc.

Ø Chakkar (Bhramari) – 5 Counts

Ø Asanyukta Hasta Mudra from “Abhinaya Darpan”

                               

v Nritta

Ø Teental, Tatkar-Thah, Dugun, Chowgun with tihai, four Hastas with Tatkar in three speeds, Eight Toras, Two Chakradar Toras, one Kavitta.

Ø Names of the five fingers- Tarjani, Madhyama, Anamika, Kanishka, Angushta.

Ø Recitation of all items is compulsory.

 

v Nritya

Ø Vandana/ Shlokas- with simple Abhinaya Hastas and communicative movements and feelings.

Ø Knowledge of the seven Indian Classical dances and their origin.

Ø The two Gharanas of Kathak- Jaipur and Lucknow.

Ø Nritya Abhinaya based on a simple song (Geet Abhinaya).

 

v Music

Ø Understanding and reciting seven Swaras.

Ø Reciting the song which is used for Nritya Abhinaya.

 

v Theory-Oral

Ø Definitions of the terms- Sangeet, Sum, Matra, Tali, Khali, Vibhag, Aavartan.

Ø Basic information about Teental, recognizing the notation symbols of Taal Lipi.

Ø Reciting the shlokas, describing the Asayunkta Hasta Mudra from Acharya Nandikeshwar’s Abhinaya Darpan.

Ø Names of five classical dancers from any discipline.

Ø Collection of pictures of five classical dancers from any discipline.
